For my 'LIVE' project I have developed many ideas, analysing and speaking about them will help me to decide on my final one.

Carpool Karaoke 

Carpool karaoke is hosted by British sweetheart James Corden and is a recurring segment on 'The Late Late show'. He invites numerous famous people to sing along to their most well known songs whilst he is driving around L.A. This is a very popular area of his show and some episodes have up to 200 million views. Adele, Cardi B, Pal McCartney, Madonna and Justin Bieber are just a few of the huge names James has featured on his show. This is a perfect example of a multiple camera video as here are at least 4 cameras on the dashboard on the car and the artists can be seen from all different angles. However I do believe that without a huge car and a massive filming crew this would be difficult to do - it also wouldn't relate to my target audience as it would not be possible to get a famous person in my car. This would mean that anyone inn my car would only appeal to a small fraction of my target audience.

Baking Show

The great British bake off is a British TV baking competition in which a group of amateur bakers compete against each other in a series of rounds. Their main goal is to impress the judges with their baking skills, if their baking fails they are at risk of leaving the show each week. However if their baking succeeds then they could be in with a chance of winning star baker for the week. In some way this programme is a form of game show as it includes 'prizes' (star baker) and if you lose there is a 'consequence' (being sent home). Although no information about how many cameras are used in the filming process can be found, I am guessing there are roughly 10 cameras being used. The filming also takes place over 2 days as the stars have to allow time to bake, leave to rest, ice and then bake some more!!! Although this idea seems like great fun it is very unrealistic - in order to film this style programme I would need around 18 people assisting me! 10 being on the cameras, 5 bakers and 2 judges along with 1 presenter. Unfortunately this is very unpractical and would consume most of my time prepping for filming and planning - consequently meaning that the actual filming would not be to my best ability.

Drama

The typical dramas are programmes such as Eastenders and Coronation Street, they are on multiple nights a week for UK viewers. It's a British soap opera created by Julia Smith and Tony Holland which has been broadcast on BBC 1 since 1985. Set in Albert Square in the east end of London in the fictional borough of Walford, the programme follows the stories of local residents and their families as they go about their daily lives. There are always multiple cameras used on the scenes and there can be up to three multi-camera crews filming at the same time. 

As I was researching into the process of filming Eastenders I came across their post production process. Obviously it is a very high standard programme but if I wanted to create something even similar to this I feel I would need the same if not just slightly different tools. Unfortunately I don't have the resources that they do so that would have been my first problem when attempting to film a drama like this. Soaps such as these also tend to have multiple characters on a scene at the time time, 3 minimum. To organise 5 + people to be in the same place at the same time in order for me to film would have been very time consuming and difficult as different people have different commitments. The final problem that I feel I would have encountered whilst attempting to film a drama would have been the cameras and the people using them. In order to get perfect angles of all of the dramas that go on I would have needed 4 cameras. 4 people would have also had to be controlling these cameras and that would have been challenging to organise as well. A challenge is healthy in these style projects however I feel as if my time would have been devoted to getting people together rather than the content and the camera work, meaning that the finished product wouldn't have been my best piece of work.

Reality TV

Made in Chelsea is a prime example of a reality TV show. It follows the glamorous lives of West London socialites. The set of the 20-somethings reside in some of the capitals most exclusive areas, including Belgravia, Kings Road and Knightsbridge. 

As you can see from above, I discovered a website where the directors/camera men reveal how Made in Chelsea is filmed. Their set-up is relatively simple and they use just 3 cameras, which would be easy for me to mirror as many of the practices that were carried out used 3 cameras. The only hiccup that I feel I would have encountered if I was to film a reality TV style video would be the content. It's very difficult to ask people to pretend to argue/have drama as it is not easy to create. I also don't have a large friendship group that argues a lot like they do in made in Chelsea. Therefore i feel as if my time (yet again) would have been dedicated to the content and the dramas and not so much on the filming and post production which are the two most important elements in this project.

Carpool Karaoke. This idea will consist of  sitting in a car and singing just like the James Corden programme. This is the first idea that came into my head when I relieved the brief for this project as I watch it frequently and enjoy it thoroughly. However, the amount of cameras that are used in the real episodes is not achievable so I will tweak it slightly and use 3 instead, I will also not be having 'famous guests' or people pretending to be one, it will just be two normal people in the car. The content of this will be the passenger and driver speaking mainly about music and how their tastes in it have changed and how it has influenced them through the years. There will be small clips of music that the passenger has chosen throughout and them speaking about what it means to them.

Cash Cab. This is a fun and creative idea, its very interactive and will make the viewers want to get involved. 3 different guests will appear in my car, all of them will be asked the same 10 questions and will all have the answer. Each of the questions are worth £10 so if all 10 are answered correctly then a total of £100 can be won. If the get a question wrong then £10 is deducted from their winnings. If they get 3 questions in a row wrong then they are asked to leave the car as they have lost. The winner will be shown at the end. This is not an exact replica of Cash Cab as there are lots of rules in it so instead I decided to take the overall concept of it but change it to make it easier for the audience to grasp. The set up will be the same as Carpool Karaoke, 3 cameras on the windscreen of the car.

My third idea is a game show. I would like it to be a mish mash of both taskmaster and celebrity juice. The reason it is these two is because although the production of them is very different, the concept is the same. They both consist of point scoring and challenges throughout, celeb juice is working as teams and task master is working alone. For my game show I would have 3 pairs of 2 people competing against each other in parody style tasks. The setup would be in a studio and I would use 3 Panasonic cameras, each with a shotgun mic on the cameras, I would also sued 3 point lighting as I believe it's the best possible for this style shoot.

My final idea is a bake off style cooking show. Bake off is a long series with many episodes so if I did this idea it would be a very mini version of this. The production once edited would have to be around 15 mins long maximum as I feel like if it was any longer it would be boring and the viewers would lose interest. 4 People would compete against each other in baking something that is revealed on the day - a bit like the technical test on Bake off. They would have a certain amount of time to complete this and then the scorer would have a blindfold on to each each of them - scoring them 1 - 4 and the winner would be number 1 who is then crowned star baker. This wouldn't be able to be shot in a studio as there needs to be cooking appliances, the Vancouver block would be the best location to shoot this on. Again, 3 Panasonic's would be used with shotgun mics and maybe a couple of tie mic's as well. I would also record on a 4th camera - possibly a DSLR - to get cut aways and close ups of the food.

FINAL CHOICE

My final choice for this project is a Cash Cab style show. I have chosen this as I believe that it will be the most interactive and interesting to watch for the viewers, it will also allow me to research into gameshows which is a very broad topic. Using my car as my 'studio' will also be different to what  many other people are doing and will be a nice change of scenery! I want to push myself out of my comfort zone for this project and I have never used 3 GoPros at once before and not in a car either - by doing this it will broaden my knowledge of cameras and set-ups as well as being a fun project to film.
